Though it undoubtedly aims towards a definite audience, Harvest Moon 64 is a charming little game that can be enjoyed by many. If you’re expecting an action-packed thrill ride, please look for another game, because Harvest Moon offers just opposite of that. For those who are not acquainted with the series, Harvest Moon revolves around the life of a young farmer. He inherits a farm from his grandfather, and it’s your job to cultivate plants, raise livestock, and make some friends in town to keep your little business going. While the premise may sound boring, Harvest Moon 64 becomes heavily addicting. Soon after starting the game you will want to make the best out of your farm; the day only lasts for about 15 minutes in real time, so you have to get all of your chores done in that time period. Harvesting plants, milking the cows, collecting chicken eggs, chopping wood, even feeding the dog…many of the seemingly menial tasks of farming are faithfully represented here. However, once you really start making your farm a successful business, you can make greenhouses, add additions to your house, purchase new plants; the game grows as you spend time working on it. You even have the opportunity to court a wife, which also adds a “goal” to the gameplay. Harvest Moon may not appeal to the hard-core Mortal Kombat fan, but anyone who wants a peaceful, entertaining video game experience should check out this game. Especially if you live in a bustling metropolis like New York or Los Angeles, maybe you can derive some kind of humility by playing this game. Unfortunately, I remember looking for this game when it first came out and even then it was extremely difficult to find, so scouring eBay or checking the bargain bins may be your only option if you’re looking for this game. However, persistence pays off, because Harvest Moon is a nice way to make time fly.
