This is one of the best Harvest Moon games that I have ever played. It took all of the best elements of every game so far, and compiled it into something this wonderful. The fact that you have so many things to do, and yet have such a variety of open-ended gameplay makes this cool. The cooking system is easy now, since it tells you what the result is going to be.
The farming is very good because you have such an expansive area to deal with, including the public lands. Finally, my personal favorite part is the fishing. This is just absolutely brilliant. With the Animal Crossing style, it makes it so much simpler to catch fish. Making money is a breeze, and you will be upgrading in no time. Overall, this is one of the best games that I have played in a while.
