Half-baked
Instead I would like to emphasize on what I believe is a rhythm game as seen on successful titles such as Guitar Hero and DJ Max Portable which creates a sensation that players are actually playing an instrument or the voice itself.
In this game, you don't play any instruments or the even the voice. You just mash the buttons to be pressed as shown on the screen (which are very, frustratingly hard to see, by the way) in certain patterns, which is supposed to be in sync with the song.
Most of the time, the notes doesn't match what you hear and it's even worse if you follow her voice! Sometimes she'd say 4 syllables but in fact you'd have to play only 2! You might as well play the game with the audio OFF so you don't get distracted by the music nor the voice which you SHOULD NOT FOLLOW.
Frankly, after the fifth time I played the song, I got tired of her outfit, I got tired of her. It's so painfully difficult to get a GREAT rating in a song which should be the way to unlock "skins" and other customized stuffs. A second or third character (or at least a skin) early on the game would've been great for variety. The game also felt half-baked in this sense, it feels something rushed.
It claimed MP3 support, allowing players to create their own tracks/module. It just doesn't work for reasons unknown. That is another fail in my book. This is actually what pulled me into the game, but well...
Hardcore anime fans would care less of this flaw, I guess. Especially when you can customize outfits and add things to place in her room. If you're guilty of this quality, go ahead and get it. Animation is top-notch, not leaving out the "fan service". It's also amazing that a vocalizer program played the vocals for the songs in there.
Another problem I'd like to state, as with all other import games too, you can never see them on your local game retailer. You'd have to scour vendors in the net to get them.
With all that said, if you really want a good rythm game, go get DJ Max Portable instead.
Edit: Fanboys don't really care if a game is good or not as long as the face of their idol (e.g. like if you put hello kitty anywhere, people will buy it) is on it. Think of the gameplay first before anything else, after all, it's a game no? If you guys don't like my review of this then prove by stating points that it is a good game and that it deserves a score higher than i've given, not just disagreeing to something without even stating why (other than your fanboy instincts). Ah, well.
