Heatseekers delivers exactly what it promises. Looking for fast-paced action and lots of explosions. Look no further!

User Rating: 9 | Heatseeker PS2
Heatseekers is a fast-paced flight arcade game. There are 18 missions to complete (which includes the 3 mission "tutorial campaign"). For each mission, the player can choose from a range of aircraft. After selecting the aircraft, the player can choose a weapons configuration which he thinks will best aid him in the mission. Mission objectives include destroying (obviously) enemy targets, protecting friendly units and installations and inspecting possible threats.

Graphics:

Heatseekers looks good. A variety of environments (that are quite colourful) are just the beginning. Aircraft are modelled well and explosions look excellent. The ground units are not very detailed but none of this is noticed. Screenshots don't do this game justice. The game can only be appreciated in motion. The game is a dynamic masterpiece. Motion effects really give you a sense of speed when using your afterburners. The camera angles are brilliant. Given that you need to look around to be aware of your situation, the game does well to help you with views. Smooth transitions from views minimise confusion when changing views. Vital Information is displayed neatly. Heatseekers has a feature knowns as ImpactCam. It really adds a cinematic feel to the gameplay.

Sound:

The sound is fitting and adds to the overall feel of the game. Along with the compulsory jet sounds, alarms do will to portray a sense of urgency. Voice acting is adequate. So is the music which is a subtle reminder of the pace of the game.

Gameplay:

There are two control modes - Arcade and Professional. Arcade Mode provides easier control of the aircraft but Professional Mode gives you more control. The game also features wingmen which you can command. This game is easy to learn. It is a flight arcade, not a flight simulator. The focus is more on fun than realism. Heatseekers delivers exactly what it promises. Looking for fast-paced action and lots of explosions. Look no further!
