Revolutionary gameplay within an engagingly cinematic experience.
Heavy Rain blends human drama, mystery, suspense, science fiction, and good old story-telling in a cohesive and engaging way. You are able to play 3 (or is it 4?) characters each of which is emotionally developed with a compelling background.
The game may have its flaws. It is apparent that with a lot more work, the developers could have made movement a little more natural. Characters have a tendency to move around with a stiff neck and a dead impression. With the ambitious gameplay they were trying to achieve, I really hoped they had worked on making characters move and react more naturally.
There is also a crucial plot twist in the beginning of the story that does not hold much credibility. Without giving much away, it involves a boy that asks for a balloon and becomes either completely deaf or completely absent-minded as soon as his dad pays for the knick knack. What 11-year old boy wants a ballon these days? And what boy can be so oblivious just by having a balloon in his hand?
Miniscule flaws aside, nothing deters Heavy Rain from being a revolutionary game. Simply put, this is a game, rather an experience, that no PS3 owner should be without.
