Disturbing interactive drama is best in its genre

User Rating: 9.5 | Heavy Rain PS3
I read about this game online and its the reason I played my PS3 for the first time in a few *years*. This game has been so widely discussed in various online outlets that it is difficult to say something new about it. In general, I agree with what I have read that the game is innovative, and think it is unique in its ability to combine an interactive drama format with game play that keeps the player interested. At some points in the game, the gamer must enter a series of fast and skillful commands. This results in a game that is not only about decisions within a narrative but also about precision controls, which makes the game more of an action game, and one wonders whether at some points the player should be allowed to use a melee attack or enter into a rolling dodge rather then synchronizing with a long series of onscreen button mashing prompts. I accidentally read who the killer was on wikipedia, but thats the wiki author's fault for not having a spoiler alert clearly labeled as such on that article. While I sometimes think this may have interfered with my experience of the game, I still found it challenging and interesting to play through the rest of the game. And, besides, I have read spoilers for other games by accident so I guess I just have to deal with this. I wish they had more interactive drama as I really like the genre (yes, I actually enjoy playing Disgaea Infinite) and would recommend this game to anyone with a PS3 who craves a good story and fun game play experience.
