Heavy Rain is no washout...
Heavy Rain boasts some of the best looking player models in any game to date, taking care to get every facial emotion or reaction just right to make the characters look very real to true life. Everything in this game is made to look not just like a game but a movie making the experience at times more immersive than any game to date.
Heavy Rain offers a vary and long soundtrack that wouldn't be out of place in a movie and adds another layer to just how immersive this game can be. The actors hired to play the characters are nothing short of brilliant making every character feel alive in a way many other games can only dream of. Heavy Rain joins a club of elite games like GTA 4, the Metal Gear Solid franchise and Uncharted 2 as the best of gaming when it comes to the sound department.
Heavy Rain decides to go around gameplay in a totally different way much like Quantic Dream's past games. Quick time events are a risky way to build your game's main mechanic around but it offers something new and different than the normal stuff you see in most games. At times you can feel like you are really controlling your character, designed to once again draw you deeper into the game. However the characters are not light on their feet and moving them around can feel a little uneven and clumsy. Also the directions to what you should press for the quick time event is not always clear, especially if you don't own a HD television.
There is not really traditional AI in this game and your playing against yourself, by not making the wrong choice in what you press. One of the gems of this game is unlike other game's who in their own quick time event will kill you after one mistake, Heavy Rain adjusts whats happening to your mistake as a person would in real life. Missing a punch or kick doesn't mean death but instead means you must regain the upper hand and this way of building a game makes Heavy Rain feel even more real to true life.
Heavy Rain boasts a story you would read in a book or watch on the big screen though their are one or two plot holes but nothing that will ruin the story. The way you can lose characters but without failing the game and seeing how the story adapts and change around your failures or achievements is something truly unique to the gaming industry. The games does have one or two bugs though I came across a big one when I couldn't load my chapter so had to go back a few to reload the game up is annoying but it appears to be a rare glitch. Despite the fact you can directly change the games story, its a little disappointing the linear nature in the overall plot and if the story was a little more open to big changes mainly the villain, then the game might of made it into my 9 out of 10 club of game scores.
However if you own a PS3 you must OWN this game, its one of the most unique and joyous game experiences you will ever come across.
