A short review about Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge. See for more reviews about other games my website:http://www.darvo.org
You can also make a free character that cost you only a onetime fee of 3000. But the bad side of this is he will not get any gear when you start. In the original he would have gotten some basic gear.
The objective is that, you need to conquer a large map from a dictator. That is your objective, but the game lets you choice what you want to do. You can side with 4 factions:
1. The Client that gave you the objective (normal mode)
2. The marauders, they are the rebels (hard mode)
3. Dictator himself (easy mode)
4. Desert folk (hard mode)
5. (You also got the UN but the wont take sides)
In the beginning everyone is neutral to you, so you just need to get some papers and then you can travel any were you want with your jeep. But you don't get any income and after day two you will most likely be bankrupt and lose the game. So you need to decide who you want to side with.
This is the basic setting of the game. I will now tell you why this game is BAD!
Gameplay
It's a strategic game, but unlike other normal strategy games it got both turn and real time modes. The combat is the turn based part and the traveling and moving around is the real time mode. With turn based every member got a some Action Points that the can use the walk, fight, bandage etc. After you used up all you're AP you need to press End Turn so the enemy can do the same thing. The number of AP is preset at 25 per unit when they are 100%. Every hit you take lowers your AP per round. This is one of the first bad things, because healing takes way to long. You can only bandage a player so he will stop bleeding. But then you need to make someone a doctor and the other a patient. This takes a long time, because in the beginning the Mercenaries don't got a high Medical skill. And you don't got time for this, because you need to have a steady income. The first battle is easy, all your members are in top condition so you can take a random town with ease. But the will get wounded so the next town will become impossible, or you need to have some luck.
Combat
Every member has accuracy skills , this should be how good they can aim and hit someone. But it does not, you need to target a enemy, press the right button sometimes so you get the perfect aim. And then you need some luck. Even a shotgun at point blank can still miss his targets five of the ten times. Also the weapons have a range description, but you don't know what this means because there is no indicator how fare something is. Even a 35 range pistol can hit someone when a 60 range rifle cannot.
Outnumbered
The enemies always outnumber you with 3 to 1, they got better weapons and they are mostly better healed and even have multiple grenades that the can throw 100 of meters. The will always hit you with ease when you don't hit them at the same point and also harder. The game is also unplayable on normal or expert mode, so you need to us easy mode if you want to have some fun. Also when you enter a map (you can do this at multiple points) they will always be there so you get hit straight away.
End
The graphics of the game are great, but the game has been translated poorly in English. Its Russian English so you need to guess what it says. Overall the game is pretty bad.
