A Legendary game. Pigs, fighting each other in turn-based gameplay, with guns? Fan-bloody-tastic!
I havnt played it in so long, as my copy trajically broke just a few weeks ago.
Ever since i have been hunting it on eBay, but to no avail as of yet.
What can i say?
If you havn't played this game, then you are missing out on so much fun its silly, it really is.
I desparately want Sony to release it for PSN download. £3.49? No question! I would snap up this game so fast its unreal! Actually, make a new version!
Online Hogs of War would just kick arse.
Anyway, onto the actual game. The graphics were good for their time, but come on people, this is PS1, so yeah they aren't really all that good.
Gameplay wise the game was perfect. There was lots of guns to choose from, and having it as turn based brought some stratergy into it, and to be honest it wouldnt have been nearly as good if it wasn't turn based, and anyone who has played this will agree with me. It is a classic game, and the multiplayer was so addictive. Sadly, of course there was no online modes, but if Hogs of War became a PS3 game with online it would sell at least one copy. My copy.
Infograms were the company who made it if i am correct, because i remember their logo coming up across the screen at the beginning, as well as one of the pigs helmet, which hilariously had "Barbaque" and "Apple Sauce" in little sachet's attached to it.
The main mode of this game was simple. The big collection of islands (i really cannot remember their names) needed to be captured by whichever team you have chosen, and as you Hogs get kills, they advance up in ranks and so unlock more powerful weaponary to use. This balances out the insanely hard final level, on The Isle of Swill (the only one i remember) againt the best Hog from every other country vs. your squad.
Overall, a great game that is, in my opinion, a classic.
