For a long time I was a fan of the big AAA games developed by big studios. I saw some recommendations for hollow knight and decided to try it out. I'll be honest, at first it was a bit daunting searching with not much direction. You are dropped into a world with pretty much no knowledge of what to do or where to go.
Once you start discovering new areas and figuring out the patterns for boss fights the game becomes much more fun and you start to love the challenge. Also, getting the first upgrade, mantis claw, platforming becomes soooo much fun! You begin to jump all over the levels just because it feels good.
And then you begin to understand the storyline and embrace the cinematic elements of the game, as well as the incredible landscapes. It's like a good song that you discover. At first, the chorus gets you hooked, then you begin to enjoy hearing the verse, finally you listen to the lyrics and fall in love. I have beat this game twice, the second time being even more fun than the first.
Hollow knight is easily one of my favorite games of all time, and the best part is that a small indie studio created it. Kind of unbelievable that they were able to create this masterpiece. Try it out!
