Ever since I put Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee into my PSP for the first time, I haven't been able to play anything else. I've been looking for that one game that would make the 250 bucks I shelled out for my PSP worth it. HSG: Open Tee is that game. From the moment I stepped onto the first tee box I was hooked. Unlocking characters, outfits, accessories, clubs, balls, courses, etc. makes it almost have a RPG feel in the building of your characters. Being able to decide which of the open challenges you want to tackle next, and subsequently which item/character to unlock, puts you in control of what comes next. I know some hardcore "golf sim" fans are upset about the "3-click swing" mechanism, but I think it works very, very well in this game. I have not played Tiger Woods Golf for the PSP, but on a handheld game I think I'd rather have the 3-click swing than using the analog stick personally anyway. I haven't had a chance to play it multi-player, but I imagine it's just as fun and addictive if not more so (who doesn't want to smack talk their buddy when they hit that 50+ foot putt?). I know I find myself smack talking the AI players I play against in "Stroke Play" matches anyway. All in all HSG: Open Tee is a must buy for anyone who owns a PSP. It's not just about the golf with this one.
