Graphics sub par, combat repetitive. Lack of skill variety. Leveling system grindy and boring. Look elsewhere.

I had high hopes for this game, I watched a preview, read a few articles on it and it seemed promising. Well, to my dismay i was deluded. Ever see a preview for a movie and all the good bits were in the trailer and the movie stunk? Well that is how Hunted: The Demons Forge turned out. To start with the graphics are under the bar for what the standard is today. I try not to weigh so much on graphics but it was something that stuck out to me. The combat feels solid enough, but there is no real sort of target lock system, there is a target assist in the options but I only saw it help when using the bow. Otherwise you just flail about and hope to kill whatever is attacking you at the moment. You can block but generally you don't need to. Something that really turned me off from the game was the lack of a proper leveling system and variety of abilities. By proper I mean gain experience to make levels then allocate points or whatever into a tech tree or something similar. The level system it does use is the grindy kind akin to Final Fantasy 2's level system. Kill X amount of dudes with bow or sword and increase amount health pots you can carry by 1. By X amount i mean like 250 and up. When your killing the same 3-4 types of enemies for a couple hours it starts to stink. As for the abilities in the game, each character gets three weapon skills and magic skills and there is three levels of each. So you may think that's a decent amount. Well its not when the two characters you use share the same magic abilities. The weapon abilities are different but the levels of the spells don't branch into new spells, the new spells are upgraded versions of the same spell from before. So your stuck with the same three weapon abilities the whole game, you only get bigger flashier versions of the same three weapon abilities. This also applies to the spells. So that in it self was a huge bummer for me. There is collectibles in the game, that come in the form of gold which unlocks these little pictures in the menu screen that i could not figure out what to do with. Maybe its something further into the game. I suppose if you play this co-op which the game promotes, it would hide some of these flaws. I am not sure what Bethesda was thinking with making this game. Don't buy rent it if you want to see this for yourself.
