Gamespot gave I am alive a fair review. Ubisoft took elements from some of their popular titles and made a great story.
Health and stamina are effected by your every movement, rounds for your pistol are rare and arrows for your bow even more so, making combat a event that requires problem solving. The game switches from third to first person when you draw your weapon, locking onto a target or your choice, most enemies are taken down with one round, but you can control where you hit like any fps to ensure a kill.
The game has a lot of climbing that resembles the newest splinter cell or assassin's creed games, but the added challenge is the stamina bar which creates more tension whenever you have to hang off rubble or scale a building.
I am alive is a realistic game compared to most, but still suffers from some "gamisms" to not make the adventure impossible. You have first aid items that can be taken at anytime and arrows can be used indefinitely as long as they hit a target. The grappling hook is also a silly addition to the games otherwise great inventory. This does not take away from the fact that your resources are scarce and are not to be wasted, especially when playing the games harder survivor mode.
I am alive is a survival adventure that takes place in a grim city after a horrific natural disaster. The story did not need to add any stupid alien attack or zombie apocalypse theme to effective. The game just shows humanity at its worst and what a lone survivor has to do to continue living and find his loved ones. I highly recommend I am alive for anyone looking for a fresh and challenging adventure.
