I wouldnt call myself a hardcore fan of shooters but I do enjoy playing them on occasion. I remember playing the Gradius series on NES and SNES. When comparing this game to others you can see just how much this one improves on the genre. For starters the ability to change colors in the middle of a battle to avoid enemy fire is genious. There are two different colors in this game, white and black, and enemies will use both colors against you, occasionally at the same time. This makes the game very hard in places where mobility is limited. If you match the color of your enemy, you will be able to absorb the energy, this is called "bullet-eating", and use it to launch a massive attack on all enemies on screen. This game looks 2D just as if it were an old school game, but it shows off its beautiful 3D grahics in its cutscenes. Sound is just as good, matching stride for stride with the visuals. I would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of shooters or even if your not, rent it and give it a try.
