Note: 5 is average for my reviews Ikaruga is a very enjoyable game, but there is something you have to know that no other review will tell you. It is a hard game, but how nice it is to you makes it an extremely easy one. In fact, after several hours of gameplay, Ikaruga becomes impossible not to beat on any difficulty. At first, I loved Ikaruga, I loved it for it's challenge, it's gameplay, and the way it took an old genre and made it new. But behind the "challenge" There is a secret that nobody else will tell you. You see, at first, I started out with 3 countinues, a good number that lived up to how impossibly hard the game was supposed to be. After a while, I noticed it was four. Note that this game is 25 minutes long and you don't save it. I figured that I had counted wrong, and that I had actually started out with four countinues. I didn't really notice when the number reached 5, but by the time I had 6 countinues, I was starting to get a hint that something was wrong. By the time I reached 7, I was sure now that I didn't get another countinue each time I managed to beat a level, (that was my theory) I decided to just ignore it and enjoy the game. So it reached 8 countinues, then 9. And I thought it would stop there...I was wrong. Any arcade junkie will know what "Free Play" is. When you get an unlimited amount of countinues for whatever reason. Do I even need to say it? I beat the game on easy finding out that it was on Free play near the end of the game. Then my two friends (who were both really bad at the game) beat it on normal. I stopped them from beating it on hard. And I went online to try to figure out how to fix this glitch. I don't know if you'll believe me: It wasn't a glitch. The game was designed to give an extra countinue for every hour played. There was no way to turn it off either. But (and this is what saves the game) there is an extra challenge mode that lets you play without it being extremely easy. I reccommend this game to anyone who is looking for a challenge for the first few hours of gameplay. Then wants a game that is extremely easy for the next ten hours. Seriously though, If you're willing to "pretend" that you have a limited number of countinues, Ikaruga could be a great game that could last you a long time.
Ikaruga comes from the same team as the ill-fated Radiant Silvergun on the Saturn, which some have claimed to be “the greatest shooter of all time”. With that kind of heritage, it should be expected to have some impressi... Read Full Review
