This is the best WW2 game in the world! It is all you could ask for and more.

I an so amazed by this game. I have always wanted to fly some of the obscure German, Russian, and American aircraft and now I have the chance! I really like the alternate history of the game and the inclusion of aircraft that were only on the drawing board during this time period. If you get this game (and I hope you do) you should start out with the quick mission builder and then progress to the full mission builder. Don't be daunted when you see a pale blue screen and a few controls at the top. All you have to do is Google "how to create full missions in Pacific Fighters". Although this game is not good if you are just starting out as a virtual pilot, if you have any experience AT ALL in flight simulaton you will find it easy to adapt. Just keep the realism settings low until you have mastered the aircraft you will fly in most.
The only real fault of this game is that there may be too many flyable aircraft and you may miss out on one of them because you keep overlooking it! (ha,ha,ha). However there are a lot of variations of different aircraft so the meat of the flyable list is only variations of different aircraft like BF-109G, BF-109H, and so on.
If you want to get a feel of this game before you buy it you should Google: IL2 1946 aircraft guide ipaper. You will see a scribd.com website as the first result. DO NOT BUY IL2 STURMOVIK. (on this page it is the first result under "games you may like"(it has the black aircraft on the front). It has HORRIBLE graphics. IL2 1946 is the good one. This game is everything a virtual pilot could ask for and would probably impress a real pilot too. I really hope you get this game.
