User Rating: 8.9 | Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb XBOX
I'll keep it short and sweet. If you are an Indy fan, buy this game, as you can get it nice and cheap now. I bought a used copy in May 2003 and still own the game. I never experienced any of the technical problems that many have been experiencing, so that is a risk involved with playing this game. Its apparent some copies are problematic and others are just fine. Graphically, the game is a mixed bag. It definitely could use some more detail, but it gets the job done. It produces a convincing Indy world, which does the job nicely. The framerate does stutter sometimes, but not as bad as in many other games. The audio in the game is a jewel. The music is so inspired by John Williams work that you won't have a bit of a problem with it. The fully orchestrated score (no synth here) is quite thrilling and something more companies should invest in. The sound effects are all appropriate, but Indy's punches are the best. You have to love that completely unrealistic but brutal sound effect that is from the movies. The 5.1 seperation is fantastic and really gives the movie feel. And the Indy voice actor is scary in his portrayal. Its near perfect. But the gameplay is a fun affair. This game tries to do nothing more than give Indy fans a fun time, and it hits the nail on the head almost perfectly. I say almost because my only complaint is that the story gets far to fantastic for a true Indy story. Almost all of the Indy games have had this problem, as the Jones in the movies never faces any overtly supernatural menaces and is a skeptic on the the whole "hocus pocus" stuff, as he called it in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Other than that, its perfect for Indy fans. You'll long for an improved sequel. Enjoy!
