Maybe one of the last great adventure games from LucasArts
Fate of Atlantis introduces another Indiana Jones plot, which in all honesty is probably deep enough (or pretty darn close) for it to work its way into cinematic form. In the quest to find the lost city they player can choose one of three paths which emphasizes either action, teamwork or thinking skills and drives the plot and challenges of the game accordingly. At the end, all three paths come together and the player requires a little of all three to get to the games end.
While obviously we're still dealing with a 2D point-and-click adventure game, each background is drawn with great skill and is visually appealing. There are enough puzzles and challenges to keep the gamer thinking (though some of them I found were too easy) and enough action to keep the entertainment value up too.
I still find Fate of Atlantis to be a fun game to dig out of the closet from time to time. I'm especially fond of the game since I really do feel that the classic adventure game slowly died off after this point.
