Infamous 2's core game mechanics are slick and smooth, nearly perfect. This aspect more than makes up for its downfalls.

Infamous 2 is simply fun. It achieves what games were set out to do originally, entertain. What this game does best, is play really really well. Different finishing moves, electric grenades, and blasts are at your disposal and are schemed on the controller so you can pull them off at the right time with the right precision. Suckerpunch knows how to really put the player in control, combat is satisfying and you feel the reaction instantly from your button presses.

There's very minor issues like the camera occasionally being sketchy during melee attacks, and the stickiness of the climbing system. However it does little to impact the fun. What Infamous 2 is lacking is a compelling story to support its gameplay backbone. The story and cutscenes are somewhat distracting, and the characters are the typical archetypes. Zeke I found especially annoying, but his suckerpunch shirt beneat his vest almost makes up for that. And the Good/Evil morale system, shouldn't be taken to seriously either. But thats not what this game is about. The gameplay is Infamous 2's bread and butter. Using flashy satisfying attacks and unleashing havoc on this games solid physics system is where I found the most enjoyment.

The slick graphics and animation also contribute to the combat contributing some real weight. Suckerpunch is establishing itself as a top tier developer, if they brought some likable characters like from their sly series, and a decent story to they'd have a dangerous title to compete with in their library. Here we have another Example of Suckerpunch's ability to craft a finely polished combat system with great animation and graphics to boot.

*EDIT*
I feel it neccesary to discuss the GS review as I feel it is rather imprecise. 7.5? Drastic I believe for the minor issues noted, this is a AAA title, a 7.5 says otherwise and may influence others to turn the other way. Blasphemy I say! Go rent this game ( I don't typically buy single player games).
