While a few small bugs pull inFAMOUS 2 away from reaching it's full potential, the game is still a "blast".

To start this review off, I'd first like to apologize for that horrible pun in the review deck. Tea makes me do crazy things. Anywho, the first thing you should know about this game is that it, at it's very core, is still practically the same game as the original. You play as superhero/villain Cole MacGrath, you beat up bad guys with your electrifyingly.....uh, electric, super powers, and throughout the game you are presented with "Karma Moments", letting you decide between being worshiped or hated by the fellow citizens of New Marais. This is not, however, necessarily a bad thing. inFAMOUS 2 does bring a few new cards to the table, and improves on a few issues that the first game contained.

I'll try to talk about only the already known (at least I hope already known) aspects of the story to prevent a tornado of spoilers. Following the events of the first game, Cole, Zeke, and newcomer Kuo are beginning to depart from Empire City to New Marais in order to help Cole gain new incredible abilities in order to combat "The Beast". However, upon leaving, an uproar begins at the very center of Empire City, with people screaming for their lives as they get sucked into a mysterious black hole-like....hole. Cole runs to the source of the disturbance only to find *gasp* The Beast. Despite his best efforts, Cole is unable to defeat the beast, and Empire City is destroyed.

The first thing you'll probably notice is that the graphics are a significant step up from the first game. The animations are much better, New Marais looks fantastic, and the cutscenes are no where near as cheap and stiff as the original game's were. Both the pop-in rate and framerate have improved, and the game overall just flows much more smoothly when compared to the first game.

As expected, inFAMOUS 2 offers great new powers that you either unlock as the story progresses or buy from the powers store using experience points. Unlike the first game, however, in order to buy a power, you'll have to unlock the power first by performing a certain stunt, such as head shocking enemies a certain amount of times. This neither improves or decreases the game's fun value that much, but some may be aggravated that they can't just simply buy the powers with experience points like in the first game. As far as the powers go, there are some recurring powers like the Ionic Storm, but there are also plenty of new powers as previously stated, such as the all-mighty Ionic Vortex and the various upgrades of Cole's standard powers.

One other new feature in the game is Cole's brand new melee weapon, the Amp. The Amp does help improve the melee combat over the first game's, and while it's fun to use, the melee combat is still fairly simple and not really all that special. Oh, and a friendly tip: NEVER try to melee someone with an RPG. You will regret it. You will regret it very, very much.

One issue many had with the first game was that enemies had no variety. Sure, they may have worn different clothing, but for the most part they all used the same kinds of guns and nothing else. This issue has been fixed with inFAMOUS 2, ranging from enemies that wield ice-type powers to big, ugly monsters.

My only real disappointment with inFAMOUS 2 lies within the new UGC feature. This is not so much the game's fault as it is our fault, because as of now, there just aren't that many missions that are actually inventive or just plain good.

If you loved inFAMOUS, there really is no reason why you wouldn't at least appreciate it's sequel. The missions may not be that creative, but they're still a barrel of fun, and karma moments seem to have a much bigger impact in this game. There are still a few bugs and glitches hidden throughout the game, but they aren't nearly as frequent as the original's bugs/glitches. I would definitely recommend this game to any gamer in need of a a good superhero game, as well as anyone who just wants a good open-world experience for their PS3.

Pros:
Great combat and lightning powers
Interesting story
Outstanding soundtrack

Cons:
Missions aren't all that creative
Glitches can dampen your fun
