InFamous 2 comes in with a blast and, in some senses, is better than the first.

User Rating: 9.5 | inFamous 2 PS3
Story: The story picks up months after the first game. Cole and his friend Zeke meet with Agent Lucy Kuo who knows a professor down in New Marais who has invented a device that can help Cole defeat an entity known simply as "The Beast", which was foretold by Kessler in the first game. As they are about to leave for New Marais The Beast shows up earlier than excepted and destroys Empire City and nearly kills Cole. The three then Escape to New Marais and meet up with the professor who tells Cole in order to use the device he invented, he needs to collect a certain number of blast cores to activate it all while the beast slowly draws closer to Cole destroying everyting in its path. The story then takes no time in introducing new enemies and characters, most of which are very interesting and are full of surprises. The story, like the first, is very gripping and has many twists and turns along the way. It all leads up to two very different endings that are both very emotional and give good closure to the game. The only real bad part is that there are some elements from the first game that aren't really answered and some things don't add up, but over all the story is very well done and will keep you hooked until the end.

Graphics: the Graphics have seen a major over haul since the last game. For starters, the city of New Marais is a lot more lively and colorful than Empire City ever was, The effects for about everything including the electricity and explosions look awesome, The game still has those really cool comic style cutscenes, speaking of which the in game cutscenes look A LOT better compared to the first game. The voice acting is top of the line, and if you miss Cole's old voice actor (I at least did) then I would like to say that the new one still does a great job and after a while you won't notice much of a difference. Now the bad is that there are a few glitches in the game like getting stuck in the walls and there is a lot of clipping at times, but over all the game looks great.

Gameplay: The gameplay stays largely the same as it did in the first game but with more content added in. First let me start with my favorite: the moral choices. Through out the game you are given plenty of moral choices on whether or not you want to be good or evil, and this will then later effect parts of the story, espically the final choice which is very powerful, this will effect the way people think about you and how you look. These choices will also make you really reflect your actions if you think about it. The next is the main gameplay which is solid and still packs a punch. Instead of losing all of your powers at the start of the game, you still have some of your powers and you gain plenty more along the way (the morality of your character will also effect the powers you get). Most of the powers from the first game make an appearance and you also get a whole new array of new electric attacks. Along with electric powers you also can get ice and I think fire powers as well to increase your power selection. The melee combat is still simple but it is helped by a cool melee weapon called the AMP which is badass and looks awesome when you pull off a finisher. Like the first, there are still plenty of side missions to do and they are either good, neutral, or evil. The side mission help break up the story missions. The missions themselves are pretty varied and will offer plenty of fun to be had through the game. Now the exploration has also been improved because your new abilities can help you even more. Unlike the first game where you would only fight thugs and superpowered Conduits this game introduces both those and monsters or "freaks" as they are called, these add a new challenge to the game and all have their strengths and weakness'. Now what is bad about the game? well that is simple, the camera can be pretty horrible at times. In this game they put the camera a little to close to Cole and when you are fighting monsters and they keeping knocking you back the camera can seem to spaze out and just go all over the place. This is a pretty big problem and can be especially annoying when you are fighting many types of enemies at the same time. The camera is a big issue but there are so many good things going for this game that I am able to look past them and still say the gameplay is still fun enough to be enjoyable.

Overall:

Story: 9.5 While some parts don't add up, it is still a very emotional, gripping, and excellent story and really sums up what it means to be a superhero.

Graphics: 9.5 while still not prefect, they are a huge step up from the first game and are very well done.

Gameplay: 9 While still very fun and addicting, the camera holds it back from perfection.

Enjoyment: 9.5 Had a great time with InFamous 2 and is one of the best games this year!!!

Final Score: 9.4 (9.5)
