Formula overplayed, But good game none the less
First off it gives you a bunch of different types of game play, not just a long straight out campaign. There are levels where you have to save people and get them to a helicopter, defend people until helicopters can arrive, or just ran around kill the **** out of some zombies. There are more level types, but i can't think of them right now.
But the way you have to kill zombies is what makes this game somewhat different from the plethora of other zombie games. You first start of with your standard pistol, shooting anything you can. The zombies start off yellow, but when you weaken them enough, they turn red. Once they're red, you can actually kill zombies. All you have to do is shoot them with your viral gun. This gun is connected right to your own veins. But what makes this addition so cool is the combos that you can pull off with this. If there are a group of red zombies together, a sort of red line will connect them all. And all you have to do is shoot one of those zombies, and they're all gonna explode in a particularly rewarding fashion. Blood and guts everywhere.
Now the actually guns that you can get are pretty standard zombie killing guns, thanks to doom. You first get a pistol, next a shotgun, then upgrading to a machine gun, rocket launcher, then infected's own take on the BFG. The BMFG. Which is a suitable name, because it sure is a Big mother f*cking gun. One shot usually puts a couple of normal zombies in the red right away. But the drawback is that they all go flying in different directions. So you have to be fast with you viral gun and shoot them while they're all still together in the air.
Now they way you get these guns isn't what you think. You have to buy them with the money you get from completing the missions to unlock them. So once you finally buy the shotgun, your all happy that finally have a gun that can do some real damage. But you start off with your pistol again! And there's no way to change your weapons! Then you realise that you have to kill enough zombies, within a certain time, to get to your next, bigger and better gun. Which is a good idea, seeing as how all of your guns have unlimited ammo. And just running around with a BMFG for the last 3/4 of the game isn't very challenging.
Now the actual play isn't half bad. It's easy to get used to, and fun to do. It's just the fact that it's so short. A bit more missions would of made this game much better in a lot of people's eyes. Though they do a good job packing the missions they do have with enough content to keep you happy. You can unlock more characters, including all nine members of slipknot(best band ever). The character you use in the meantime until you unlock all of the awesome extra's is completely personalised. There are probably 100 different combinations you can make, which is nice for the on-line play. Gives it a nice variety.
But the on-line and multi-player stuff is what really made this game fun for me. Not only can you have the satisfaction of killing another human being, but your character stays in there game, infecting there game. Yur character will show up every time they play the single player game again. And to get rid of it, you have to pass it on to three other people. What makes it even cooler is too see how far your character has traveled over the Internet.
In conclusion, I think this is a highly under-rated game. And anyone with a psp should be playing this.
