A monotonous, repetitive shooter, with a measly selection of weapons, horrific collisions and stupendously dumb AI.
Well, this one did.
First of all, let's take a look at some of it's redeeming features.
For one, it has relatively good graphics, and some strange but cool grenade types, including the gas grenade, which sounds normal, but makes you enter a trance that you would only think was able to be induced by large amounts of illicit drugs. The music is also relatively grand, although every now and then it mysteriously stops, and you wonder just what was the cause of it.
Unfortunately, that's all I can say that is good. Now let's look at the bad.
The sound effects are like putting a stereo playing Madonna's music into a paint mixer, and the gas induced effects emit a sound that is both hilarious and saddening.
The graphics frequently suffer from ninja-gremlins (as I call them) that force things to disappear; only to reappear as you run into them (or as you fire something explosive at them and find out you just blew yourself to pieces.)
Pillars magically flicker whilst you're aiming at something, and small broken blocks on the ground that most normal people would be able to jump over are now impossible to maneuver over, along with the fact that if you tried to maneuver over them, you are now stuck. The flame thrower is super high tech, as it can easily blast through walls, floors, ceilings, pillars, and, even in one hilarious event (in which I had to pause the game to finish laughing) through water. Unfortunately, this effect is only capable of scaring the enemy as no damage is taken through walls.
Forget headshots; gunshots are the new way to take down your foes! Yes, you can shoot the weapons they are holding to deal damage to them. What's more, against computer opponents, this doesn't even make them twitch, and the single player game forces you to scratch your head in confusion as they make some of the most idiotic strategic advances you would ever see in your life, including one that believed grenades could travel through walls and obliterated himself (although it might not have been his fault, the flamethrower would certainly have influenced his decision.)
As soon as you see this, you rush forward, only to find someone has given them some strategy tips, and they are now the most punishingly difficult soldiers in the game... Until they commit suicide.
If you play this game for too long, you might follow them.
