the game is surprisingly good. psp version is the best version because of additional features (video/additional stunts).

User Rating: 8.5 | Jackass the Game PSP
i admit, i was expecting a rough presentation. i mean c'mon, its mtv's jackass. the unscripted, handicam video clips of degenerates exploiting one another for shock value.

but this game is at the polar opposite end of the qualities you would expect from the rough, raw, and carelessness that is associated with jackass. graphics are top notch. there seems to be an almost unnecessary attention to detail. there is a good dynamic range of types of minigames. they did not take any shortcuts where you can say "good idea, poor execution". a lot of love went into this game. and to my surprise, i would say after having played just about every minigame title on the kings of minigame consoles (wii/ds) this game has raised the bar on how a minigame should be done. it makes me wonder how big the budget was for a game that is obviously going to have some eager people posting harsh criticisms of a game they are not going to even play.

graphics
first, you'll notice that the graphics are simply stunning. i'd say they've pushed the psp's graphics ability to the limit, and for a game that just serves up minigames, its one of the best looking games on the psp. the textures are very rich, frame rate is excellent. the cities are beautiful. the characters are very recognizable.

gameplay 10/10
there are 35 minigames. all have some replay value. there are definitely more fun ones than some, and some you probably never want to play more than you have to. which is a lot better than most minigames games that offer less variety and less in depth or shallow gameplay per minigame.

the attention to detail is amazing. there are not too many "repeats, "for example harder versions for the minigame with a different skin, but same game play. if they reuse anything (which is rarely done), they use it in a way that makes sense and adds a whole new dimension to the game. for example the bumpercars with turbo that you can use to push the other bumpercars off the rooftop, then you use the same bumpercars to race with in another game.

sound
the music is fitting but its not spectacular. some sound effects are clever and funny.

extras
as you get gold, silver, bronze stars, you are awarded with more characters, jackass video clips, and other unlockables. i admit i did watch season 1 of jackass and both jackass movies. and as uncomfortable they were to watch, they were also funny. and its nice to have them on the psp.

there is a video edit feature where you can save the video clip of the stunt you just did, edit them, and then put it together to make your own video. it is very sophisticated and should be interesting as you gain a collection of tragic events as you play this game through.

it looks like they made it possible to download even more content and even some minigames online. i haven't tried them yet but sounds like a definite plus.

conclusion
there definitely is replay value in a lot of the minigames. my favorite game being the most simplest of the minigames, extreme juggling. as simple as it is, if you want a gold star on the challenge mode, it takes some nosebleed concentration.

you may want to even show your friends some of the odd minigames. for your handheld, the minigames work well because they don't last long and it doesn't require any time commitment. so this game is more enjoyable on a psp than on a ps2.

the psp version is better than the PS2 version because of the online video functions and the video editing functions. and hopefully there will be downloadable stunts to come.

the jackass tv show video clips are real solid incentives to try to gold star every event in story mode and challenge mode. you rarely find this level of incentive where it makes sense for the player to actually complete the game at 100%. the challenge modes are definitely a solid addition because the majority of the goals in the challenge modes are completely different and or the difficulty has been tuned up for the minigames that i found was too easy in the story mode.

it is hard to believe that the studio that supposedly hasn't had much success with previous games turned up such a solid performance with one of the most unlikely titles that people would expect a good game from.

if you like minigames, or at one point found just a little bit of guilty pleasure watching jackass (while condemning it at the same time), you'll be missing out if you don't give it a chance. you'll be surprised.
