Jade Empire is a nice attempt to bring a KOTOR-like RPG to a wider audience, but it's not sure that you will enjoy this game if you look more for action than anything else. The real-time combat system is a bit typical with actions like normal attack, heavy attack, area attack, blocking and rolling. But the fact that you can use many fighting styles adds some meat to the bone. The game will force you to switch styles in battle because there is different types of enemies and they are immune to some types of styles. You will also be able to have one follower helping you either in fighting or support mode, but their AI is usually bad, so you'll most likely keep them in support mode so that they can provide you effects like health regeneration. If you make an effort to look past Jade Empire's repetitive combat, you will be rewarded by its compelling story. It is filled with great characters, plot twists and the game really gives you the opportunity to role-play by letting you choose what you say to the NPC’s, just like KOTOR. You can really have an impact on the story, unlike most console RPG's, and there are three different endings so it’s nice to play this game more than once. The esthetical aspect of Jade Empire is nice and polished. The scenery and the characters simply look great. During the dialogue, you can even notice their variable facial expressions. The music has that oriental touch and it’s really immersive, while the voice acting for the many dialogues is well done. All these elements make you feel that you are actually exploring the universe of the Jade Empire. Overall, the average gamer may not like Jade Empire’s many dialogues and no so great combat. But the game will provide an amazing experience for every RPG fan, especially if they have enjoyed KOTOR.
