The Jak and Daxter series is one of the most beloved platform franchises this generation. With each iteration receiving top-scores from gaming publications, the Jak series has become a platform powerhouse. Jak 3 succeeds at giving this beloved trilogy a wonderful ending, and engrossing story, that while short, ends up being worth every minute you spend with it. Story: The same old precursor madness in this tale, but there are more plot twists and funny cutscenes along the way. This time Jak has been banished to the wasteland where he meets up with a tribe of outcasts from Haven City. Along the way Jak learns his origins and the origins of these people. The story is well presented and perfectly scripted. Voice acting is top-notch once again, and the cutscenes are cinematic and flawless. Gameplay: With more guns in your arsenal, this is a much easier Jak than Jak 2 which is it's only downfall. Because of the easier gameplay (still not EASY, but easier than Jak 2) the play time is only about 10-12 hours as opposed to 16-20 with Jak 2. The new gun upgrades are really cool and fun to use, and some are especially useful. As with Jak 2 there are a ton of differient genres represented here; everything from racing, extreme sports, platforming, 3rd person shooting, rail shooting, car combat, rythm based, and puzzle games are all found within. This makes Jak 3 incredibly diverse and fun to play. The controls are a breeze and feel responsive and fluid, something we've come to love about the Jak and Daxter series. Graphics: Just as beautiful as Jak 2 with a slight upgrade to the draw distance, and a better looking Jak. This time Jak will get armor that makes him look like a true warrior and it looks great. The framerate is constantly solid and runs without a hitch. The enviroments look great, but lack some of the coolness that was present in Jak 2's artistic design from some of the levels. Overall though, a great graphical presentation. Sound: Dolby Pro Logic 2 support makes a great difference when listening to the audio. Bullets whiz by your ears convincingly, and the ambient effects sound great. Voice acting is top-notch as is the score. Value: At only 10-12 hours, Jak 3 is a bit shorter, however there are more mini games and secrets to find, which add a great deal of replayability to this version. It's a bit easier than Jak 2 and more forgiving, but just as good. Bottom Line: If you love platformers buy the whole Jak series right away.
