won't give you a brain aneurism like jak II - so play it
the first thing i noticed was that the game definitely looked like a jak game. the graphics were subpar compared to jak II and 3, but that just goes to show that over time developers learn how to streamline and use the power of the consoles to create some amazing games. the graphics weren't a problem after about 20 minutes. as soon as i found the storyline and concentrated on getting through the game, the graphics weren't even an issue. the worlds were designed with that unique jak universe look. it's good to see that naughty dog didn't stray from their look through all 3 games.
one big difference i noticed between this game and jak II and 3, was that you had to collect different items. and i do mean that the game can't be completed without collecting a certain number of either precursor orbs or power cells. and in order to get some of the power cells, you had to find scout flies in each level. finding orbs in jak and daxter isn't as hard as collecting orbs in the other jak games. the put the orbs in plain site or put them in boxes you have to shoot to open.
shooting... that was something i missed in jak and daxter. until later in the game you have no weapons. but even then your "weapon" is just the ability to shoot yellow balls of death. and that is limited by a timer. never fear, the enemies in jak and daxter are fairly easy and can be taken out with a punch or spin kick.
if you collect 100 or 101 power cells, you can see the special ending. if you don't know what it is i want spoil it for anyone, but if you really want to know it's out there on the web. collecting the 100 power cells is not a problem. that might be why i liked this game so much, it was terribly hard, it wasn't too short for me, and i liked the game play.
jak and daxter is a great platformer. the story might not be impressive, but naughty dog definitely fixed that in the next 2 sequels. these days it's not expensive, so buy it if you want to own it or just go rent it.
