Jak and Dexter is worthy successor to Crash Bandicoot.
The game begins as two friends, Jak and Daxter are goofing around, when suddenly they find a strange ceremony going on over a tank full of strange ooze. Daxter, the nitwit of the two, manages to fall into the gooey substance. Instead of dying, like many of us would expect, he changes form into a furry creature. Now Jak, the silent hero, must find a way to turn back his friend into a human and find out what the heck is going on.
Jak is the controlable character, while Daxter will hang around his friend's shoulder, constantly talking gibberish. The game works just like your typical 3D platformer: you can jump, hit enemies (some different attack types are available), collect items (there's a bunch of them, believe me) and get lots of power-ups. Collecting the hidden precursor orbs allows you to reach different and new areas, and you get those by doing tasks, that range from cow-handling to saving a crazy artist's muse.
Graphics-wise, the game really pushes the system to its limits. It is a beatiful title, all characters are very well animated, especially Daxter. The voice acting is really well done, especially, you guessed it, Daxter, who acts a lot like Gex, but isn't annoying like him. His voice is just perfect for the role. And when you get to ride the hover-bike, you'll notice the game doesn't stutter at all, running at full frames all of the time.
This game is easy to recommend, because along with it you'll get the other sequels, and the whole series is a pretty strong package, even knowing how the game mechanics and tone got changed a lot for the first sequel.
