The stunning second chapter in the Jak and Daxter series changes up the gameplay and delivers an amazing story
Visual/Audio
Amazing graphics. Jak II is one of the best looking games on the PS2. Haven City is incredibly detailed and provides a great backdrop for the game. The voice acting is incredible (Jak talks this time!) and the sound effects are solid as well.
Gameplay
Jak controls the same as he did in the first game with one major difference--he gets to use guns. The basic structure of the series has changed as well. There is no more simple item collection. Now Jak gets charged with different missions throughout the city which he must complete in order for the story to progress. This is mostly linear but there are some cases where missions can be tackled in which ever order the player chooses. Also, the ability to hijack hover cars and drive them around the city lends to the GTA feel of the game and it is a nice addition. It is worth mentioning that Jak II is a very hard game at times and it can become frustrating, but it's not really a huge issue.
Narrative
An unexpectedly deep and involving storyline. One of the very best stories ever told in a video game. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the story fresh and the characters are all unique and memorable. Jak II is one of the few games where the cut scene sequences are actually fun to watch. Haven City is an amazing setting and it almost feels like a character itself. Jak II's story line isn't just memorable--it's unforgettable.
Jak II is one of the very best games that the PS2 has to offer and it is without a doubt the best game in the Jak and Daxter series. The gameplay changes that were implemented since Jak and Daxter work extremely well and the story line is absolutely top notch. A must buy for any PS2 owner.
