For fans of the series, 'Renegade' may have been a surprise, but a nice surprise at that...

User Rating: 9.2 | Jak II: Renegade PS2
I bought this game a looooooooooooooooong time ago and 'Renegade' has the value to keep me playing to this day.

But by far the best part of Jak II was the complete turn-around of the series. The game, along with the protagonist (Jak), became more mature than the original game. The first game was far less enjoyable, but was a real gem, too.

I missed this game's launch and bought it purely to prove that Ratchet & Clank was better... only to be proved very much so wrong. It had some of the gameplay tecniques of other games, but skillfully avoided the 'been there - done that' feel of Ratchet & Clank. Having played Jak 3 I realise that they keep it coming by not letting any idea settle without stirring the metaphorical pot up yet again.

Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was a more innocent game, with no guns, as, quite frankly, there was no need. Jak II would be literally impossible to complete without firearms. And there were plenty to satisfy anyones trigger-happy fingers.

The only minor annoyance was the easily triggered man-hunts throughout Haven that are nearly impossible to calm.

But, all-in-all, I wouls easily give this game a 9/10, or higher!
