The issues with the game are minor compared to the grand feat that EA has pulled off...This is the best Bond game ever.
If you’ve seen a James Bond movie before, then you should already know what to expect from Everything or Nothing: explosions, guns, fast cars/women, and almost believable plots with over-the-top villains. The general premise is that a bad guy (Willem Dafoe) has acquired metal eating nano-bots and plans to do nefarious things with them. Jaws will also find his way into the plot, despite having been ejected into space last time we saw him. Your job is, not surprisingly, to stop the bad guy and look cool doing it. The game isn’t overly easy, but looking cool sure is. The third person perspective opens up a lot of doors for letting you feel like you’re actually Bond. Seeing Bond fight, shoot enemies, and do things like jump off cliffs feels a lot more like Bond than a bobbing PP7 ever did. The gorgeous graphics don’t hurt either. All the animations are top notch, and the character models actually look like their respective actors. The game in fact has it’s own cast with Pierce Brosnan, Willem Dafoe, Shannon Elizabeth, Mya, Heidi Klum, Richard Kiel (the original Jaws), Judi Dench (M) and of course, John Cleese (Q). Shannon Elizabeth’s face isn’t the most stunning representation of her around, but I suppose hers is a more subtle beauty. I especially like the fact that all these people joined up for the game, and weren’t pulled off a movie set somewhere for a day to make the game sort of like the movie; Everything or Nothing IS the movie.
The sound in EoN is pretty fantastic. One of the gadgets you get is a spider type thing that you can crawl into places and blow up. Well I could run that little spider around and hear his metal feet correctly sound on all the different materials all day long. There’s something very Zen about that whole situation. The music is what you would expect from a Bond film. Nothing more, nothing less. The voice acting is done by their respective actors, and is therefore spotless.
The gameplay itself is very good. Hand to hand combat has a bit too few moves to do, but what you can do looks pretty good and is effective. It’s certainly not a gimmick, you can reverse moves and block and grab etc., I just would’ve preferred more. All the driving portions of the game, are pretty much perfect. Since EA owns Need For Speed, and they aren’t stupid, they just got them to do it. It shows too, every bit of the way you can feel the polish of the Need For Speed series rather than a gimmicky car chase sequence an inexperienced team put together for effect. The only part of the gameplay that doesn’t sit well, is the gun aiming. It’s a bit unwieldy to deal with, and while you do get used to it, you can’t help but think that there had to be a better way to do it. I’ve heard differing opinions about the matter though, you may enjoy the targeting system. Another thing that they’ve done is “Bond Moments.” Whenever you do something that Bond would actually do, like per se hit on an attractive woman, or find an easy way to kill the bad guys rather than shooting them all – you’ll get a Bond Moment. The more you get, the higher rating you get, and the more stuff you unlock.
The thing you’ll probably be most interested in unlocking is the cooperative multiplayer. Yes, you heard me right. Cooperative Bond multiplayer. They try to get you to work together as a team, but really you won’t care; you’ll be having too much fun to notice. You actually have to unlock pretty much everything in multiplayer, but it’s worth it, and shouldn’t take too long since playing multiplayer also gets you points.
In short, this is the best Bond game ever. If you like Bond, DO NOT MISS IT. The issues with the game are minor compared to the grand feat that EA has pulled off. If you don’t want to buy it, at least rent it – Mr. Bond has earned at least that.
