Best Bond game since Golden Eye. Besides that, a very good action game!
User Rating: 9 | James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing XBOX
Now a day’s every 12+ action game with the EA logo slapped on it is considered average. Especially a James Bond game. After EA bought the rights form RARE ltd we never saw a great James Bond game, until now. Everything or Nothing is a great original game from the Bond Universe, it’s not based on a movie but it feels like one when playing it, which is good. Unlike the previous Bond games this one is a third-person action game. Game play – First of all, this game is very fun and easy to play. Of course, there is a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes nothing but a smooth fun ride. As mentioned before, this is a third-person action game. You will be using a lock-on targeting system that works pretty good compared to other third-person action games. You lock on the enemy and aim with the left thumb-stick, that way you can hit different body-parts, including head shots, this works very good especially when taking cover. It gives a little more strategy to the game and demands skill. The hand-to-hand combat is also very well done, simple and effective. In this game you are going to drive a lot of vehicles, here are a few that I can think of: A Porsche Cayenne, helicopter, Vanquish, rally car, dirt bike, a Triumph Daytona motorcycle, limousine, a truck, a normal and a platinum tank, and you get to even control a remote car. The vehicles controls are a bit stiff sometimes but they are great overall. When you get used to them you get to pull off some cool moves. Before you play one of the 28 missions found in the game you get to choose a difficulty setting, “Operative” or easy, includes core objective only and less challenging enemies. “Agent” or normal includes standard mission objectives and “00 Agent” or hard, which includes the standard missions but more challenging enemies. At the end of every mission you will get a mission score judged by your performance during the mission. These are, the Bond moments, number of Enemies subdued, Weapon Accuracy and Efficiency, Mission duration and the difficulty level you were playing on. Bond moments are certain things you can do to earn more points during a mission. They are more easy to do than to figure out were or how to do them. Examples are, jumping of a certain cliff with a car, taking certain enemies out with a rocket launcher at the right time, and doing some cool moves with the motorcycles. Your score will also determine the status of your mission, which are bronze, silver, gold and platinum. After unlocking gold you will have access to unlock the platinum challenge which later on unlocks all the rewards and cheats. Platinum challenges have their own sub-mission during the different missions, and are different for every mission. Like, no more than 10 shots fired in a mission, complete under a certain time, and take no damage. These missions can be very frustrating sometimes, but the rewards are great so that keeps you going. Talking about rewards, you can unlock weapons/cheats, upgrades for the vehicles and gadgets, production stills etc. You will have another experience playing the game multiply times with these rewards and cheats unlocked, so it’s worth it to check them out. The camera controls with the left thumb-stick. The camera is ok, doesn’t get in the way that much if you know how to manage it well. There are no save points during each mission, some may find this frustrating. This means that you have to be very careful from the very beginning of the mission, which takes away the mindless run and gun game-play. The variety of game-play is very fun, and has a very cohesive feel. There is nothing that can’t be overlooked that will take the fun part out of the game-play. Graphics – The graphics look great. From all the character models, to the vehicles, the art design, the animations, the cut-scenes, explosions and other effects, they all look very good and frame rate is also very stable. Sound – As soon as you pop the disc into your console you will hear the song “Everything or Nothing” and maybe recognize the voice of the multi-platinum singer Mya. Like every other Bond game or movie, this game has its own original lead song, which is very well done. The overall in-game music isn’t that memorable but adds the atmosphere. The gun sounds are not all that great, but again that doesn’t take much from the experience, especially this being a third-person action game. One thing that I would like to point out is the voice acting, which is also very well done. You can even choose between English and Spanish, the English version is better as you may expect. Value - If you haven’t already noticed, this game has a lot of production values. But the core value can be found in the re-playability and the multiplayer. The game takes about 10 to 15 hours to beat. Once you beat it you have to at least play every 28 mission again to unlock every rewards, upgrades and cheats. You have to do this at the highest difficulty level, known as 00 agent. You can already imagine how much time that could take. But this game is fun so that wouldn’t be a problem. I didn’t send much time playing the on line/offline multiplayer, but all I can say is that they are not bad! I personally don’t like split screen, but I’ll leave that to you. Story - I will not tell so much about the storyline, all I can say is that the story is very similar to what we are used to when it comes to the James Bond games and movies. They include rescue missions, women, and destroy the enemy before something very bad happens. The story is not the highlight of the game, but more of the way it progresses. Everything or Nothing is a fun game from start to finish. The fun game-play, interesting driving levels, the missions, the objectives, and the overall production values makes this game is a must play game if you like the third-person action genre . Rent it or buy it now that it is cheaper, and get ready for the next installment, “From Russia With Love” coming out fall this year.
