A great game; but definitely past it's prime.

This is the port to one of my favorite arcade classics of all time. Problem is... like I said before; it's aged and dated like a model T. It's cool, but some people might think this game is worthless.

That being said though, it's definitely one of the better arcade to 2600 conversions out there. Also, it's definitely better than a lot of 2600 games in general. Though, the game play and stages throughout this game are extremely simple; it seems to have decent replay value. Graphics wise, sure it’s nothing close to the detail of the arcade version, but it definitely has quite a bit of detail for a classic Atari game.

If you’ve never played Jungle Hunt, here’s the basic story:

You're the colonial explorer/pith soldier from Jumanji. You go through the jungle trying to save your fair maiden from the cannibals. First you have to swing from vine to vine, ala Tarzan. Swim through crocodile infested waters, carrying your knife for protection. Then dodge, duck, and jump tumbling rocks. Then finally, you jump past the cannibals before your dear sweet generic maiden is dipped into the boiling cauldron of pixilated delight.

Replay value may be a little shallow, though... Though, there is quite a bit of variety in the stages. Once you've played it through several times, you may feel like you're going through the motions. It's best to play this game in small sequences.

Controls are pretty good, and actually handle quite smoothly. Attacking the crocs with your knife might pose as a challenge, since the knife isn’t visible.

But in the end; this is a pretty cool game. It’s definitely worth the buy or rom download.
