This game is insanely ambitious - over 250,000 acres of landscape, reportedly 4 minute time frame from leaving plane at highest point to hitting the ground, almost 100 playable vehicles - in short this game is nothing short of astonishing. At least it should be. Graphics aren't a big deal in this game; if GTA:SA is good enough for you, then this game matches, even surpasses that. The huge landscape would surely mean liberties would have to be taken in certain areas, and indeed they have. Car details can be a little shoddy, as can character animation. If you look at Kane for example, her arms appear to have 3 joints. Overall graphics are mightily impressive considering the scale of the game - the draw distance isn't at all terrible, you can see for miles around when flying and the skyline looks great. The water does look flat and the textures mediocre at best, but overall not too bad. Of course the Xbo360 will be a great deal better looking, but considering the PS2's age, you can't complain. The gameplay and value aren't too bad either. £27.99 at Game for a brand new game isn't bad value and considering the size of the game area, you can get many hours of fun out of this if arsing around is your thing. The gameplay is fine, but i would agree with Gamespot that the missions are both too short and samey - a greater variety of missions and difficulty would be preferable, but there are upwards of 300 side missions too deal with if you can be bothered. My main qualm with this game is the sound. At points it can be plain awful. The cars sound terrible for the most part, with a dull monotonous drone and rushed gears changes being the order of the day. The guns sounds fine, but can sound a little flat. The lack of music aside from the Spanish-style jingle can be irritating - radio stations like GTA would knock the sound score at least one mark up. Overall, not a bad effort, with plenty to do so long involes mindless flying or killing. I've had 12 hours of gameplay so far and haven't finished the story due to general larking about and flying from point to point trying to find stuff. If one thing could make this game a whole lot easier to navigate it would be markers like on GTA, so that you don't have to check the map every 30 seconds, meaning the game to pause while you check the PDA. If you like flying alot, and find virtual scenery hits the right notes then this is the game for you. If, on the other hand, you like in-depth stories with great sounds then steer well clear, you'd be better off buying GTA:SA as it offers much the same in free-roaming goodness, but in a much more realised form.
I just got this game for my PlayStation2 and it is absolutely incredible!! It is like being in a Antonio Banderas action movie! The graphics are so brilliant for a free roaming game!! The sound machine is fun too!! Lots ... Read Full Review
Just Cause is a game that is great, while it lasts. The map is so big that there is rarely a time when you say “I remember dieing here.” The jungle covers most of the map with a few towns and villages that inhabit the tr... Read Full Review
