so much for realism.
User Rating: 8 | Just Cause PS2
Realism. Like it or hate it your going to find some games that stick to scientific laws as closely as possible. But every once in a while there comes a game where laws are broken, immposibilities made possible, and realism is thrown out the window. Just Cause is one of those games. I'm reviewing the PS2 version and i have to say. These graphics are about the same as graphics were at the start of the PS2s life. when you shoot anybody they become stiff as a board and fly up to twenty feet away. the explosions are choppy and the fact that the monster truck doesn't do much to people on foot makes this game look like it was put together within a month. but that's only at a glance. If you play this for an extended amount of time then you'll find that the bad graphics are severly outweigted by the sheer enjoyability of this GTA style game. Probably the best feature in this game is the parachute and grapple gun. The parachute can be deployed at a variety of different situations like falling out of airplanes or off of cliffs. The stunts are breathtaking if you can pull them off correctly. Another very usefull feature is the ability to call your allies to drop a bike, a hydroplane, a jeep, or a mini helicopter. You can also use this ability to transport yourself instantly to a safehouse. You'll want to beat the game before you start exploring though. It can be Very frustrating to fly, drive, or boat to the other side of the map (which can take up to 15 or 20 minutes) only to die at the hands of a tree. if you die then you go to the last safehouse you were at. The land vehicles handle very VERY badly. but the airplanes, helicopters and boats are a pleasure to drive. it is off putting how the slightest bump to a plane will trigger a massive explosion but you get over that once you get used to flying. The lock on mode is difficult at first but once you grasp the concept you get used to it quite fast. it relatively easy to not die at the hands of your enemys.
All in all this game deliveres dissapointing graphics and vehicle mechanics. But it also includes one of the funnest free roaming games you'll ever play.
