Kalonline is an oriental themed MMORPG created by a Korean company called Inixsoft. The game is based on an actual legend about the 74th War between "Ha-Nin", the great King and "Ban-Go" who used demon army's to challenge the king. (A bit like army of the dead just more gore). The game throws you in a fantasy world where you can become 1 of 3 classes of character; Knight, Archer or Magician. Kalonline features a fully interactive 3D environment with very life like attributes such as character shadows, seeing your reflection in water and of course you can cut off the demons heads.
Specs
Although Kalonline is a full 3D game the minimum requirements for the game are pretty low. All you need is a P3 with 600 MHZ, 128 Mb Ram, 16 Mb Video card and DX 9.0c. Of course the better your system the better the game details and such.
Game play
The interface is pretty simple to use and although the game has no real tutorial, new users can expect to fully understand the game within the first few hours of game play. Mobility is mouse based (point and click) and there are no keyboard controls in this game for movement of the character. For those lucky enough to be blessed with a scroll mouse, the scroll button allows you to zoom in and out on your character in the world.
The website features some great screenshots of in game play. I for one have been greatly impressed.
Each character class has specific skills that only they can learn and develop. You start game play by creating a character in the class of Archer, Magician (both female only) or Knight (male only). Characters can be personalized in a few different aspects. You are able to choose from a variety of styles of face and hair. When Kalonline first started in North America, there were only three styles of face and hair to select from for each class. They have since expanded the selection to six styles of face and hair.
Each class starts out in standard armor and can hunt for or buy better armor as they progress through the game. As each character earns experience and levels, they also earn skill points which can be spent on these skills. Each class of character starts out with base statistics set differently, playing to the strengths of each class. The stats are fixed for each class and not generated randomly. Each character is also allotted 5 stat points to use in developing your characters attributes at the start of the game and you receive five points to add to the stats, and one skill point to buy new skills with each level you gain. There are many quests to help in earning extra experience skills and contribution points.
There are several other ways to earn skill points in the game. As stated before, skill points are needed to learn different skills based on your class. Often these skills are needed at certain levels of learning in order to learn new skills as well. With each new level, every character earns one skill point, this is often not enough. So, in addition to regular hunting, Inixsoft has added several quests that all characters can do. Each quest is generally minimum level based and involves retrieving a certain amount of items from different creatures. The rewards are varied based on the quest and level, but for the most part are comprised of experience, a skill point and/or a contribution point, and from time to time a small amount of geons (game currency). Contribution points are used mostly when it comes to forming or joining a guild.
