Like a Michael Mann film, not for everyone, Halo kids and jar-heads: stay away! Action/crime drama aficionados: come in!
Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days is an improved yet still flawed sequel, the presentation and artistic visual tone come straight from the fast paced handheld "shaky-cam" YouTube school of photography full of glare, digital artifacts and other similar effects, it works quite well overall, except in a few cases where such effects make it hard to distinguish your targets from the rest of the scenery.
The controls are better this time around, the cover system is now assigned to a face button instead of the previous auto cover system, however the targeting, while vastly improved form the first game could still use a bit of a tune up. The music is kept to a very minimum to keep up with the whole documentary, what you see (and hear) is what you get approach, the sound effects are adequate enough for the most part but I was left wanting a bigger and better "bang" from a couple of the guns, despite these minor flaws, the game does a great job of making me feel like a big screen bad-ass shooting my way out of danger.
Yes, the single player game is short, about 5 Hrs. but despite having an arcade mode, co-op story mode and and several online multi-player modes (like cops and robbers, fragile alliance and undercover cop which will keep you playing long after you finish the main campaign) reviewers are giving it low scores solely based on that. Since when does length equal quality in a video game? It might be short, but it sure is one hell of a ride.
