The 3rd Volume in a fun and addictive series

User Rating: 7.8 | Karaoke Revolution Volume 3 PS2
In this game, for those who don't know, Karaoke Revolution is a series in which you sing a variety of songs in gigs, duets, or practice to earn the crowd's respect, and earn platinum hits. For the most part the number of songs is pretty good, and their music selection is decent and very mainstream. There were many good things, but also many bad things about this game. Gameplay - (7/10) - This is where the game faults. Although the concept is great, it doesn't really base your scores on musical talent, but more on being able to hold notes, and maintain a pitch. Most of the time you don't even need to know the words and can just hum into the mic to get the pitch needed. Its a shame because a lot of the songs I know perfectly, but didn't do well because I have an awful pitch. But overall its pretty fun, and the presentation or menus are very navigable. Graphics - (7/10) - Like most rhythm games, this isn't its strongest aspect. Character models aren't very detailed, and textures are pretty blurry. Environments are blan, even though the developers tried to give it the music icon feel with over the top lighting effects, or low key solo at your local club. The graphics are terribly awful, but won't win any awards. Sound - (9/10) - Most of the songs were transferred decently. A lot of them, however, sound ruffled, distorted, and at a somewhat low bitrate. Sound, however, is what this game succeeds at, with a great mix of music, and microphone that seems to respond pretty well. Value - (9/10) - This game is very addictive. One of the most addictive games I've played. The difficulty varies, but for the most part is pretty simple. This game is very fun to play with other people because there are duets, and other modes. I took away points because it could have been online, but isn't, and I wish there was a feature where you could record what you sounded like. Overall, you won't want this game if you are looking for something with a lot of immersiveness or substance; but if you're looking for a fun game to play with your friends, that you're not afraid to get embarrassed over, this is great. Not quite as hard as DDR, but just as fun. A great game to give as a gift, and always great to receive.
