Funny and addicting!

User Rating: 9 | Katamari Damacy PS2
Katamari Damacy is hands down one of strangest games ever released yet also one of the most addicting. It involves controlling a tiny spaceman who rolls around a ball that causes things to stick to it. The more things you pick up, the bigger your ball gets, and the bigger the items that you can roll over. In each stage, you have to meet certain size requirement minimums within the time limit, but if you meet that minimum, you can keep making your katamari bigger and bigger. The gameplay is fast, wicked fun, and challenging, as items might fall off if you crash into something bigger than what you can suck up. The game also has a wild sense of humor and visual style that's sort of like Yellow Submarine. Some people might derive a sick sense of satisfaction when you get to run over people and hear them screaming. And at the end of each stage, the King of the Cosmos takes your katamari(the ball) and turns into a star to replace the ones he knocked out of the sky. The King also has his own weird sense of humor. The controls are simple and refined. You hardly ever touch the buttons and use both analog sticks to roll the ball around. The game's soundtrack is also one of the coolest around. There are also many secrets and rewards for the player. The game keeps a library of everything you've encountered and there are also presents for the the tiny prince to wear. There are also special stages that serve as minigames with different objectives than the normal stages(such as picking up a bear to make Ursa Major). There are some minor nitpicks to this game. There are moments where the camera is blocked and you can't see your katamari anymore. Dashing is also a difficult exercise. And it's a rather short game. You might not find everything in one go, but certain players might not see the need to go back and improve their scores. This game might also be too strange for some. But on the whole, this is a fabulous and well put together game. It's got a slick sense of style, gameplay, humor, and uniqueness. Plus its knowledge of the many countries of the world and their languages is impressive.
