Katamari Damacy...No longer a psychological profile.
User Rating: 9 | Katamari Damacy PS2
Here’s the thing – I’m changing my review. Not because my opinion of the game has changed, but because my opinion of the review has. It was annoying. I wrote this cute little piece that delved into using this game as a means of psychologically profiling people. And while on paper it seemed like a neat idea, after rereading it recently I realized it simply didn’t work. I asked a series of questions that were meant to be used as a litmus test of sorts to figure out whether or not you’d like the game based on other areas of life. One of the last questions was: “Are you exasperatingly annoyed by reading this review right now?” This was meant to be a joke as well as a means of illustrating the point that if you think using Katamari Damacy as a method of psychologically profiling a person is funny, then perhaps you have a quirky enough sense of humor to appreciate the offbeat nature of the game…So what’s the problem with this? After rereading the review I had to answer “yes” to that question. I, myself, was exasperatingly annoyed by reading my own review. Ooops. Oh, well. So, since I’m the only person outside of the hardworking employees at GameSpot who had the authority to save the world from my annoying review, I did what I had to do and what you are reading right now is the fruit of that labor. So, what about the game? My opinion has not changed in all this time. It’s still awesome and I recommend at least giving it a shot. There isn’t anything more I can say about the game that you haven’t already heard – it’s weird, it’s wacky, it’s what you get from eating the wrong kinds of mushrooms. If you like the idea of rolling a ball around and collecting everything while listening to an eclectic selection of sometimes awesome music, give it a try. And even if you don’t, try it anyway…at least you’ll see firsthand what all the buzz is about. The bottom line – it’s not for everybody, but most people should have some fun with this game and others will have a blast. It’s only 20 bucks and well worth the price. Play it.
