Katamari Damacy is quite strange, yet surprisingly accessable.

From the moment I was told about this game from one of my friends, I knew it was going to be something to see. It's no looker, it's nothing really all that special on the outside, but it's the heart that counts, and this game has a lot of it. Katamari Damacy is without a doubt the weirdest game I have ever played. You are this little green martian from outer space who is the son of the King of all Cosmos. He's a giant super-heroe looking guy with a large crown who makes you collect balls of things to replace all the stars in the sky because he broke them! Strange premise, but it's executed amazingly. The gameplay is based entirely through your analog sticks, besides a few uses of the shoulder buttons and whatnot. You need to press both analog sticks forward to move forwards, both back to move backwards, and one up and one down to move around the side. It can get a little tedious at times and it's really difficult to move around well, but when you get the hang of it you'll be able to do it pretty well. You can't just add everything you see to your Katamari from the get-go. You need to grow it, nurture it, you know, care for it. Start small and get big, don't let your eyes be greedy! As you get bigger you'll be able to collect larger items, even things like tables, chairs, and even kitty cats. It's really fun, but not the easiest to get the hang of. Sometimes, the levels can be really hard too, because they give you huge standards to fulfill in a short amount of time, but when you know what you're doing, you'll have a blast. The graphics in the game are simply awful. They're some of the worst I've seen this generation, artistic, stylish, technical, or otherwise, it doesn't matter, they're not good. It's not like they affect the game, though, because it does keep you in game and knowing that you're in this cubist-world filled with junk. It doesn't do any harm to the game, it's just not good looking. The soundtrack in the game is really good. Only problem is that there isn't enough of it. When levels start to get longer you'll notice it looping quite fast and it can get tiresome. But for the most part it's really upbeat and fun to listen to. Wouldn't be all that bad to listen to outside of the game either, it's that unique. Overall, Katamari Damacy is a strange, but accessable game that should be played by anyone with a Playstation 2. At $19.99 as the suggested price, you can't go wrong. It's fun, addictive, and unique. It's a must-own, totally.
