Pit in 8 Bit

User Rating: 6.5 | Kid Icarus NES
And I'm having a fit. I never had the true pleasure of playing Kid Icarus back on my NES back in the day and man now I know why. It is so hard to freaking describe. It's a platformer yes...sidescrolling, I got that, but it's just too weird for one's taste. Let me elaborate.

Gameplay:
A pretty simplistic run of the mill sidescrolling 2-D platformer that was released on the NES back in the glory days of olde. You take on the role of Pit sent by some angel guardian to fend and save the world from evil. So using your bow and arrows take down weird looking creatures through level by level. It's rather tedious but gets the point across nevertheless. I just wish I didn't feel so raped of my virginity everytime I played it as I get lost in the 2nd level. Overall, the gameplay is straightforward and gets the job done.

Graphics:
Being released on the NES and being revitalized with no graphical enhancements on the Wii: VC hurts. It feels as if we all got hosed Timmy. I mean the graphics for it's time were pretty good but nowadays it's barely living up to all that one's pupils can bare.

Sound:
The lighthearted melodic monotonic tunes are few and far between and can be seen as an afterthought as the game composes itself entirely of one or two different tones here and there.

Control:
Nothing too complex and traverse here. Just use the Wiimote to move Pit around and A to jump and B to fire them arrows into the enemy carcus. Platforming can be confusing at first and you'll be going "Wait Waaait...where am I?" sooner or later, but while it lasts the control remains intact for the most part of your experience through.

Overall:
Thankfully this game only set me back 500 ($5) and I managed to purchase Super Metroid as well that really made up for this lacking and aging title. This one is yet again only for the true Ninty fans out there and will manage to entertain others for at least a couple of hours.
