I've only played through about 15 missions on "normal" (which isn't "easy" by any stretch), but it's enough to let me know that this is exactly the type of game I like to play. I've never really cared for third person shooters (just couldn't get into Metal Gear Solid--I tried!), but playing Kill.Switch makes me wish I could played more of the Master Chief in third person in places, besides just the vehicles. The graphics are outstanding. The environments range from indoors to outdoors locations, all beautifully rendered. The gameplay is unique in that the entire focus is shooting from cover. The ability of the character to hug walls either standing or crouched, moving or stationary, is impressive (and can also be your downfall if you don't "unstick" in time to shoot in some cases). Unlike an FPS where you either "lean" or dash out and back to shoot around corners, this character keeps his back to the wall and reaches around to shoot, blindly or looking. Your choice, as the situation warrants. You also do have a melee attack, which is handy for saving ammo (or not having any!) or just plain being stealthy. The AI is very good. The enemy will advance on you and in groups. They move with cover like you do. You must attack and move forward from cover to cover, or the enemy will overrun you. You can't jump, but your defensive move is a pretty prodigious dive/roll that can be executed in any direction. This can save you from grenades, and get you from cover to cover in heavily defended areas, and is required to get over tripwires. The arsenal is well balanced, without going overboard. You will carry 2 to 4 types of rifles at a time (though there are 9 different types), and 0 to 4 types of grenades. While ammo is plentiful (on normal, anyway), it's not unlimited. I have run out of bullets and had nothing but a couple of grenades to deal with people and try and get some ammo again. One important point: there are no checkpoints during a mission. Your save is finishing the mission, so advance cautiously! This isn't a pure stealth game, though you can sneak to a point, but you must keep your head (and body) down! You can run and gun for a couple of seconds in spots from cover to cover, but you're greatly outnumbered. As a final note, the audio (such as it is) isn't bad. It doesn't annoy like much game audio does, and actually seems to help drive the action along. Ironically, like practically all games, the repetitious enemy phrase in Kill.Switch is "Take cover"! But I don't mind hearing it constantly because it's a reminder to me that, "Yes, I'd better"! I wish more game designers would start to realize that if you making a story that's worth playing, it's worth scoring with a proper soundtrack like any good movie has!

This was one of the first games I played on my xbox, and it's pretty good in my opinion. But, like in any game, it has its bad moments. They're just a little more visible in this. The Good: Excellent game play. The... Read Full Review
