A brave new approach on video-gaming as an art form

User Rating: 8.1 | Killer7 PS2
To start with, the true power of Killer 7 is as much found in its looks and presentation as in its gameplay. The story is really disturbing and quite entertaining if you dig weird asian films and the work of directors like Chan-Wook Park, Takashi Miike and Jun-hwan Jeong. While the game is a true tribute to korean and japaneese gore / sci-fi / thriller it also pulls the feeling and context of the game towards the works of Hitchcook, Kubrick...and hell, why not... Franz Kafka if you get into it. As you can guess by now, the story and presentation was what moved me the most.

But what about the gameplay? I really liked it to. Just after completing the game, I found myself feeling that games NOT using the rail-system didn't give me the same thrill and excitement playing. The rail system turns Killer 7 into a nightmarish fairy tale ride in a godforgotten theme park. You MUST follow the given way, and you MUST face whatever's behind the next corner.

A big drawback is the sound. OK, the hysterical laughters of the Heaven Smiles is really scary, but the main characters same phrases repeated over and over again after each kill is just a big shortcoming.

And last of all....the end of the game and the final stage just sends shivers down my spine. A true cinematic experience.
