As one of the biggest hyped game of 2009, did Killzone 2 meet expectations

User Rating: 8.5 | Killzone 2 PS3
Now I will be honest... my expectations for Killzone 2 were not high. After the build up and subsequent let down by the original game, my confidence was not high. Fortunately i was pleasantly surprised by Killzone 2.

It has lifted the bar for visuals in gaming. However as crisp, gritty and stunning as the visuals are, it doesn't hide the fact that the setting is very much constant throughout the game. As is unfortunately the case in recent first person shooters, Killzone 2 also falls into the trap of an emphasis on browns, and different shades of grey, and it makes the environments quite bland. Again this is not so much a crack at Killzone 2, but the direction that the FPS genre is moving toward.

The gameplay is extremely well handled, and you really feel as if you are a part of the action just based upon the bodily movements of your character. The AI, is incredibly intelligent, however they clearly do not pack the same punch your character does, which is strange given you are wielding the same weaponry.

The audio, is brilliant, setting a brilliant scene for the player and really immerses you in the experience. Whilst on the experience, one area for improvement is the plot. It mostly consisted of you moving from fight to fight... just because you could, there was no real purpose to it.

Online multiplayer is a blast, you will lose many many hours in this, as it does everything very well. But it is not for the faint of heart, many contests you will be in will see you facing the very best players, and it can become a brutal introduction to the multiplayer for those who aren't paricularly proficient.

All in all, Killzone 2 is a brilliant game, and despite a few issues, it has raised the bar for first person shooters, and is a game which i highly recommend you add to your collection.
