The Good vs Bad when it comes down to Killzone 3

User Rating: 8.5 | Killzone 3 PS3
Killzone 3, an instant buy for me just for the fact that I got and loved the 2nd one. Nothing more to it really besides the multiplayer betas, which were quite fun even though the thought of stats not transferring over is constantly on a few peoples minds when they play betas like that. But did this game prove to be any good and is it better than the previous Killzone? Find out by reading on in my good vs bad review!

The Good:

+ Graphics: Obviously this gets a plus, seeing as how when Sony throws out a game, ESPECIALLY when it's a sequel, one of their requirements are graphics that looks as close to reality as possible. No, I'm no fanboy just to clear that out of the way because all companies aim to do that, but not all succeed. Killzone 3 nails everything just about perfectly from shadows, to character movement and everyones favorite (or at least mine anyways) EXPLOSIONS!

+ Sound: There are many sounds in Killzone 3 but the most important to me in most situations is the voice acting, this game does quite well and has some of the best I've ever heard. Why? Well, seeing as how they've managed to not only bring back all of the voices from the previous game but add new ones that match the characters quite well, but the sounds of the different guns being shot, explosives going off and environmental sounds as well.

+ Gameplay: Usually when a first-person shooter releases a sequel, not much changes with the way the game is played, just the story, characters, and locations you go to. Killzone 3 is kinda like that, but this time around there's the addition of quite a few new things, one of them being more vehicular combat, which was done quite well compared to other games. There are even some parts in the game where you don't control the vehicle, but just the weapon of the vehicle to make the game more fun and a lot less stressful. There are also added PS Move controls which I honestly thought made the game not only more fun, but slightly more easy to play as well thanks to the lock-on feature it provides, which again, makes the game more fun and a lot less stressful.

+ Difficulty: Killzone 3 ups the stakes for the planet earth, as well as the difficulty against the ISA. Though the Playstation Move makes the game slightly easier it seems that the A.I. for the helghast has improved and become a lot more smart from before. They now work as teams much more and even have new toys to show off that will make your job slightly more difficult than before, but not so difficult that it will cause you to rage quit.

+ Replay Value: Though this game doesn't have much story replay value (unless of course you like the intense action sections or are just into single-player gameplay like that) the online mode does. With it's competitive game types, great leveling system, and stable reward system there's no reason not to like it (unless of course you're terrible at it.)

The Bad:
-Gameplay: Though I complimented the multiplayer aspect of the game for having competitive game types, a great leveling system, and stable reward system, but there is the sad and rather annoying fact that the multiplayer is actually a downgrade from the previous Killzone. There's no Custom Soundtrack, lack of Suicide Point deduction, inability to spawn on your squad leader and even more that just makes the multiplayer game feel inferior to the second game, and though it's fun and addicting to play, these features are few of which actually made Killzone 2 one of the best online experiences for the PS3.

- Personal: This is the first time I've ever had to give a game a personal reason for something bad, or at least I think it is, and that reason is the ending. Without giving away any spoilers, I was quite angered by the way the game ended, and told myself I wasn't going to do the review within a day of having the review requirements met, but I couldn't stick with that... Maybe someone out there will enjoy the ending, but I sure as helghan didn't...

Other than that, this game is a great game that is definitely a must-own for all FPS loving PS3 owners. With it's very few flaws, intense gameplay and improved multiplayer, there's absolutely no reason not to make this a buy which gives Killzone 3 an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
