Probably the only good FPS on PS2 which many cant even appreciate...
I am preety sure that the Story is familiar with all you people who have even felt an inch of hype that the pre-rendered E3 2005 generated. If you are not then here is a gist of it, The game takes place in the distant future where we have begun to colonize other planets, and you're part of a militant group who branches off to the planet of Helghan, where the atmosphere has a different type of effect on the inhabitants. After a few wars, the Helgahst are ready to go after the nearby world of Vekta and it is your job to stop their attack.
The beginning of this game might surprise you because it manages to capture the essence of war in a very justified manner. The game explains to you what your mission objectives are and you have to carry them out while passing through hordes of enemies. As you progress through the game, you form an alliance with 3 people and continue the missions with them along your side. You have the ability to play as any of the 4 main characters but the Assassin is the only one which offers a different point of view or direction for missions. The missions are linear and span over many different environment from The war torn battlefields, underground tunnels and facilities, docks, swamp, enemies futuristic stylish bases and the base above Earth.
The weapons look very good, reloading and shooting them is enjoyable. They vary from character to character in game, some have light weaponry and some have heavy and they all feel like they are supposed to, heavy and bad a$$. To shoot you have to press "R1" and it feels like a trigger and the controller vibrates which gives a feeling of shooting a gun the way its meant to be shot. ( If someone ever asks why Rumble was ever important, tell them to play Killzone and feel the rumble feature. Its a huge loss of not having Rumble in SIXAXIS ). Now i cannot say same about aiming of weapons, its lousy, its frustrating and never accurate. The Dualshock2 was never meant for handling a FPS well enough, i suggest players adjust their sensitivity in options and then play.
The PS2 ain't no new machine, its been out for ages now and for it to be able to play a game like Killzone is really amazing. The graphics ain't no WOW AMAZING but they are good for such a old console. The maps are big and are able to depict the situation perfectly but its all jaggies and low resolution textures might disappoint everyone who has got a taste of the next-gen machine. Lag is a issue in this game, in many outdoor areas the FPS can go down very much and shooting can be like bullets being fired in SLO-MO. It cannot be overlooked but it is a PS2 after all and has to be ignored.
The AI in this game is weak and can be easily fooled and be killed the same way and your allies are pretty dumb as well but its fine since run and gun shooter is all this is and it satisfies well in that field. The game has many bugs like objects appearing out of nowhere, enemies pointing aimlessly in any direction but they are rare and nothing that will effect game play in a major way.
In the end this game serves it's purpose of being a great PS2 FPS and nothing more. Learn to enjoy it while looking at it in the situtations it is in and not to what it was compared to initially.
Adios...
