It may at first seem like any ordinary generic shooter, but than it hits you,Killzone is actually a great game.

User Rating: 8.5 | Killzone PS2
Even after hearing about all of the bashing Killzone received from the critics,I still went ahead and picked it up.Well any way I digress. To begin,I will talk about the visuals. They're quite spectacular for being on the PS2,and really are some of the best I've seen. The character models and animation are all very detailed, considering the capabilities of the PS2.The levels aren't to huge, but they still hold up even by today with their gritty war like setting and deserted feel.

The Sound track is also just as great. You get a variety of drum beats and an over all great presentation.Same gos for the voice acting.

The games plot is quite played out by now.Alien race wants take over our planet,so we stop them from doing so,simple. Its really quite a predictable plot, but it doesn't make the fun factor go down at all.The story will take you to a lot of different locales from abandon buildings,to the jungle and desert. The campaign might take a couple of days to complete it,so its kinda long.

The game play is what you would usually find in any standard FPS.Shoot anything that moves! With your standard assortment of weapons such as the rifle, shotgun, pistol, sniper, bazooka, and machine gun like weapons. They're all fun to use against the Helghast(Alien Race),but they're not all that powerful. The game resembles your standard FPS,but it provides that much more than your usual generic FPS.Theres also a multiplayer mode which you can play either offline with bots,or online.I'm not quite sure if Guerilla is still supporting Killzone's online, but I know for a fact that offline with bots is probably just as fun.The multiplayer is an awesome addition that gives the game much more replay value.

Now to talk about the terrible aspects.Well one of them would have to be the occasional slow down in the frame rate, and another would be the amazing unbalancing of you and the enemy.Though these are only minor problems in a great game.

Final Verdict:Given the limited library of good FPS games on the PS2,Killzone is seriously underrated and deserves a closer look.It provides an excellent presentation of both in graphics and in its game play, and should most definitely be given a try.
