Its a good shooter, but its no Halo killer.

User Rating: 7.3 | Killzone PS2
Killzone is one of those games that you get really, really hyped for. You hear so much about it, how great its gonna be, that you dont even wait for a review to go and purchase it. However, it turns out, as it always seems to do in these instances, that the game was overrated, rushed, and could have been a whole lot better. First of all, the gameplay. This is where Killzone is great and where it fails. Mowing down the Helghast with many different weapons (this is one of the strong points, theres a ton of cool weapons) is really a lot of fun. However the technical problems are what kill the gameplay. The framerate can often dip below what could be considered smooth, and the developers really went for overkill with the weapon recoil. The only weapon that really wasnt done right is the sniper. Aiming isnt easy with it, its far from what a real sniper would be like. I give Killzone's gameplay a 7 out of 10. Next, the graphics of Killzone. This is where Killzone really, really shines. This is one of THE best looking PS2 games out there. If youve played games like Halo the graphics may only seem mediocre, but theyre very good considering the hardware the developers of Killzone had compared to Bungie. 9/10 The sound in Killzone is also sometimes great and other times you hate it. The Helghast get very annoying, it seems they only have 5-6 lines they repeat over and over again every 2 seconds. The weapon sounds and effects are done nicely, overall the sound is great except for the Helghast. They do get annoying. 8/10 I havent played Killzone online, but ive heard this part of the game may be better than the single-player campaign. I personally thought Killzone was overrated. It was far from a BAD game, but it was also far from great. Its not a system seller like Halo, and its no Halo killer, ill tell you that much. But it was good enough to keep me entertained. Bottom Line: If you have a PS2, get it. IF you dont, its not worth picking up a PS2 online, like Halo was.
