Guess who's back?

User Rating: 8.7 | Kingdom Hearts II PS2
Story: Kingdom Hearts 2 takes place 1 year after KH, and a few months after Chain of memories. It is more mature than the previous installment, but not mature enough for a T rating I guess. You don't start off as Sora, but Roxas, a youth who wants to uncover the secrets that his home, Twilight Town contains, but bites off more than he can chew when, in order to defend himself against the beings called Nobodies, summons a Keyblade! When you eventually get control of Sora, you realize that he acts more like a teenager than in the last game. Searching for your friends takes a backseat(finally!) and uncovering the truth about Organization XIII and defeating them is the main priority.

You go to new worlds like Mickey's Castle, and Port Royale(Pirates of the Carribean). Btw, fighting with Jack Sparrow rocks. Some of the old worlds return like Hallow Bastion, but have been redesigned. They feel a little bit smaller at the start, but they open up later on. One thing I have against the story is how forward it is. It also doesn't have as much side quests as KH1 too.

Graphics: Square-enix really outdid themselves on the visuals. The cutscenes look great, and show what the PS2 is graphically capable of. The character detail looks almost as good as in the cutscene too. SE also added the option to skip the cutscene if you've already saw it, which is great that they put it in, since I got tired of losing to a boss and having to go through the cutscene again.

Sound: The music is pretty good. Roxas' theme is moving, while Axel's(a member of Org XIII) theme is fast pace. Sactuary, KH2's theme is pretty good, but not as good as Simple and Clean from KH. Good none the less though. I'm glad they kept Yoko Shimomura as the composer. The VA's are better in some characters than in the last game, but some shouldn't of been changed. Mandy Moore was good as Aeris in KH, but in KH2, they changed her VA to Mena Suvari, who does a horrible job on her voice(Aeris sounds like a robot in KH2). Some changes were good however. Lance Bass(N'SYNC) did a moderate job as Sephiroth's VA in KH1, but in KH2, SE changed it to Steven Blum, who does a better job.

Gameplay: The gameplay has been completely redone, making more user friendly than in KH1. Sora's attacks are more acrobatic and more fierce than in the previous game. There is a new thing called Reaction Commands, which are similar to God of War's button pressing, but in KH2, you use only one button(triangle) to perform them. Each reaction is different, depending on the enemies you fight. You can still do limits, but now, you can also do them with allies in your party(like with Goofy). The other new thing are drives, which are like fusion from DBZ, but without the crazy dance. Each drive is different, and specialize in a different. For example, in Valor form(when fusing with goofy), you use 2 keyblades, and your attacks are more powerful, while in Wisdom form(fusing with donald), you use your keyblade as a gun and shoot blue ice bullets from it. Your magic attacks are also more powerful too. There are more drives, but I'll let you learn about them on your own.

Conclusion: Overall, this is a good sequel to KH1. the story is really good, the gameplay's really fun, and the new characters are well developed. The music is great too, and the visuals are amazing. Anyone with a PS2 needs to check out this title.
